Orphan Situation - Thousands
of orphans as a result of poverty, civil strife and
disease.
ICC
is challenged to help - A
request to help poverty stricken children with educational
assistance in Sri Lanka came in late 1996. In 1997 ICC
rented a home close to Columbo to commence orphan care.
By 1999 ICC was caring for children in three rented
homes. In 1999 ten acres of land was donated to commence
a Children’s country home campus near Kandy in central
Sri Lanka. In 2000 work began on the first cottage home.
In 2001 the first cottage home was opened. In June 2002
the second home was opened.
ICC Children’s Country Village - ICC is continuing
to develop the Children’s Country Home Village on 10
acres of agricultural land near Kandy in central Sri
Lanka. With cottage home care we place each child with
loving Christian house parents and 10 –12 other orphans,
much like a real family. Here they find love, care and
a sense of self worth. Many of the children who have
come to find their home with ICC Sri Lanka had been
abandoned. Some had been sold as slaves or indentured
servants. They are all studying hard and receiving extra
tutoring from their house parents to ensure that they
can live successful independent lives in the future.
Orphans are happy to receive love and care.

Profile, Anushka - Anushka was born into
a very poor family in southern Sri Lanka. While
an infant his father was stabbed to death and his
mother was left with a little family and no income.
After struggling to survive for some time the mother
gave up and abandoned her children. Anushka and
his brother were brought to the ICC Relief Homes
in Columbo. They are now growing up to be happy,
healthy boys on the new ICC country property in
central Sri Lanka. Anushka was very shy and frightened
when he first came to the ICC homes. He is now at
school and receiving excellent grades and gaining
confidence. |
