Romania,

In
1991 ICC established a program in Romania to care for
children with critical needs. This gradually expanded
into a social welfare program for indigent families
with children. In 1997 the emphasis shifted to care
of orphaned and abandoned children.
ICC
Romania established a receiving center in late 1997
in Bucharest. In 1998 they purchased facilities and
land in Odobesti, a rural village outside Bucharest.
The receiving center transferred to this location near
the end of the year. In early 1999 a grand opening was
held.
Currently we have up to 40 children at a time being
cared for in this facility. We were able to facilitate
a few adoptions of children who were eligible but at
this time the government has discontinued adoptions
while the process is being reviewed.

The local government has requested that ICC expand
its capability of providing care for more children.
It was decided to develop a children's village. The
construction of the first children's home began in July
of 2002. The plan is to construct and staff up to ten
homes which will provide care for up to ten children
each.
