Philippines,
Asia
In
1998 David and Jean Streifling ,who were supporters
of ICC in Newfoundland Canada, accepted a call by the
church to AIIS in the Philippines. He would be teaching
graduate students at the University there. They took
with them a desire to start a chapter of supporters
there for the work of ICC.
After they were settled they gathered a group of people
together who shared the same desire to help children.
Soon they discovered that there were children in the
Philippines that needed homes and the care of loving
parents.
In March of 1999 an ICC team traveled to the Philippines
to sign an MOU with the Philippines SDA Union. The vice-president
of the country was at the official MOU signing ceremony.
(She is now the President of the country).

We took a look at the donated property located next
to the Mission school in Pampanga in the Northern Luzon
district. This is in the area affected by the eruption
of Mt. Pinatubo in June 1991.
By this time we had rented the first home and had taken
in around 12 children. Over the years the program has
grown. Soon we rented a second house and increased the
number of children to 22. During this time we began
construction of the first home on the property. We found
that it was necessary to construct more than one home
before moving the children out since we need room for
the staff too.
In 2003 we completed the third home and moved the children
to the campus. Presently the accommodations are crowded
and we are in desperate need of staff housing. The children
are divided between the three homes and the staff share
the third home with five of the children. We also started
construction on the school for the children. The first
classroom is almost completed, and progress is being
made on the second one. Since the children are young
we will be able to expand the school as we grow.
We are now registered with the government and are planning
an inauguration in the next few months.
The agriculture program is well underway with fruit
trees that have been planted. The government has just
donated some seeds for gardens. A new pump has been
installed in the well.
We are excited about the cooperation from the community
with the program. The mayor of the village and the municipal
doctor have come to visit and are very happy with what
we are doing. The doctor has volunteered his services
for our children. The neighbors are also supportive
of our program.
They have started an Adventist Youth group for the
children and involved the other students at the nearby
boarding school. At Christmas the children put on a
program for a few of the churches in the area and also
sang for the mayor at the City Hall.
Plans for the future:
- Staff housing for the teachers, social worker and
administrators
- Complete the school
- Play equipment for the children
- Develop market gardens and industries
